If your current boiler predates Aprilv2005, it likely belongs to the older non-condensing category. These models typically operate around 65% efficiency, meaning a significant portion of your gas expenditure ends up wasted as heat escaping through the chimney up to 35p per £1.
With efficiency reaching up to 92%, upgrading to a modern A-rated condensing gas boiler can yield substantial savings. This upgrade will help you save hundreds of pounds annually on your energy bills.
Rather, you may qualify for the ECO4 scheme, which offers the opportunity to replace your inefficient boiler with an Air Source Heat Pump. It is usually used in combination with solar panels to further reduce your energy bills.

I’m not receiving one of these benefits, can I be helped?
The ECO4 Flex Scheme offers up to 50% coverage for energy efficiency upgrades across England, Wales and Scotland. With a combined gross income below £31,000 annually or those with specific health conditions making them vulnerable to cold can have extended eligibility.
Verifying income or health status, local authorities may oversee the implementation of the scheme in respective areas.
A complete operational status is expected by April 2023, despite a gradual rollout. During the process, we will confirm the availability of applications in your area.
I’m a Landlord, can I get any help?
Exciting updates in energy efficiency standards are here to ensure cozier homes, as the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) mandate all rented properties to boost a minimum energy efficiency rating of band ‘E’ since April 2018 unless exempted. But wait! It gets even better! Starting in 2025, all properties leased under new tenancies must meet an impressive band ‘C’ rating. Existing tenanted properties need an upgrade to meet this standard by 2028. A fine of £30,000 will be imposed in case of failure to do so.
These changes align with the Government’s ambitious net-zero emissions targets by 2050. These regulations will also extend to properties hitting the market for sale by 2035.
How can we help?
If your tenant is currently receiving any of the benefits mentioned, your property will qualify for a grant aimed at enhancing its energy efficiency. This grant can cover various upgrades, such as replacing an outdated non-condensing gas boiler with an eco-friendly Air Source Heat Pump, as well as installing solar panels to boost overall efficiency.
Under the ECO4 scheme guidelines, it is necessary that properties rated as band ‘E’ must achieve at least band ‘C’ rates following implementation of energy efficiency measures.
