By the ECO4 Flex program across England, Wales and Scotland, more than 50 % energy saving improvements can be covered in homes. This scheme is specifically designed for the households with a combined income below £31,000 per annum. This scheme also facilitates those with specific health conditions that makes them more susceptible to the cold.

In your area, local authorities manage the ECO4 Flex program and will confirm your eligibility based on your income or health condition. The rollout of this scheme is gradual and its implementation is expected by April 2023.When you apply, we’ll check if applications are open in your area.

Starting in April 2018, the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) require all rented properties to have at least an ‘E’ energy efficiency rating, unless they are exempt.

All new rented properties must have at least a ‘C’ rating starting from 2025. Existing rented properties must meet this standard by 2028. A fine of up to £31,000 could be imposed if these requirements are not fulfilled.
These rules align with Government’s goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050. In 2035, they will also apply to properties being sold.

Under the ECO4 scheme, it is required that all properties with an ‘E; rating improve to at least ‘C’ rating after implementing energy efficiency upgrades.

Your property could also be qualified for a grant, if your tenants are receiving any of these listed benefits, to enhance energy efficiency. This could involve upgrading an old LPG boiler to an eco-friendly Air Source Heat Pump, along with installing solar panels to boost efficiency, as long as the boiler is over 9 years old.
